Packing Checklist

Be sure to check the TSA website to confirm what should be packed in checked luggage vs a carry-on.

  • Passport/Visa/Forms of Identification/Student ID
  • Plane Ticket(s)
  • Medications/Vitamins
  • Dictionary – if studying another language
  • Backpack/Small Bag/Fanny Pack – for day excursions
  • Small, Folding Umbrella
  • Reusable Water Bottle
  • Small Purse/Wallet

  • Camera – With memory card and charger
  • Headphones
  • Laptop Computer – With charger
  • Tablet

Clothing

  • Socks/Underwear – Recommended two weeks’ worth
  • Pajamas (2)
  • Hoodie/Sweaters

  • Swimsuit – For warmer climates

  • Nice/Formal Outfit – At Least One
  • Light Coat/Jacket/Heavy Coat
  • Flip Flops – For Warmer Climates and/or Shower Shoes
  • Walking Shoes – Find Shoes You Will Be Comfortable Walking in
  • Running Shoes – For the Gym or Running Outdoors
  • Sunglasses

*Bring clothes that are easily layered for various climate conditions.

  • Hair Brush/Comb

  • Pocket-sized Kleenex/Tissues
  • Mini Hand Sanitizer

  • Travel Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash (Optional – You may choose to purchase these after arriving)

*American products use a lot of power and can fry circuits. Be wary of bringing a hairdryer or straightener from home.

*Many countries have more formal everyday wear than that of the United States. Be aware of what is culturally appropriate and expected in the country you are traveling to.
*In many countries Heating and Air Conditioning can be very limited. Be aware of these circumstances and prepare accordingly.

  • Class Related Items
    • Many countries do not sell index cards. If this is your preferred form of studying, be sure to bring an amount relative to the length of your stay.
 

What NOT to Bring

  • Any weapons – Including but not limited to: Knives, switch blades, pepper spray, firearms, brass knuckles, etc.
  • Illicit Substances
  • When in doubt – ask the study abroad department, or leave it at home
